Because Lutherans invite joy. Lighting the candle for joy symbolizes a break from the season’s penitential tone, inviting us to celebrate the blessings of Christ’s coming. Advent joy calls us to pause and appreciate the presence of God in our lives, looking forward to the fullness of joy that Christmas brings. It’s an invitation to reflect this joy through kindness, gratitude, and worship, radiating the light of Christ to those around us.
